What does "basically said" mean? Here are two examples. What does "basically said" mean here??? Does "basically "belong to main clause or subordinate clause??? 1) The guy I like basically said he doesn't care about me. 2) The company basically said there was nothing they could do. Thank you!!!

2) The company, basically said; there was nothing they could do. When we summarize something that somebody said, we use this expression. The company may have actually said 'I'm sorry sir but even though the product you bought was defective we won't be able to replace it because it is no longer under warranty'.
