They are both afterlife locations for sins, a place of suffering, pain, and damned souls. English Literature depicts either inferno or hell as the same and uses them interchangeably. The nuance between inferno and hell is that they are from different language branches: Latin origin and Germanic origin. And the Anglo-Saxonic word Hell derived from this Germanic branch, including some Nordic mythological origin. According to Biblical translation, the Vulgate, a Latin translation, uses the word Inferno, whereas the King James Version uses the word Hell instead.

I think the simplest answer I can give is this: An inferno is better used for a blazing fire. Let's say you're looking at a fire pit and the fire keeps growing wild, you could say, "What an inferno," But you wouldn't say "What hell!" Similarly, for hell, it can be used for situations that mean terrible, such as "Oh hell, I just cut my finger." You couldn't say "Oh inferno, I just cut my finger." So there is a difference there. Hell is more of a place (in theism) or used to describe annoyance. Inferno is more of a fire, but also means a hellish place (in theism) but not used to describe annoyance. Hope this helped at least a little!

Actually there is no such diffrence b/w "Hell" and "Inferno" or you can say the meaning changes how we use it actually..!!! Sense 1 - Inferno Meaning: Any place of pain and turmoil Example: the hell of battle / the inferno of the engine room / when you're alone Christmas is the pits Sense 2 - Inferno Meaning: A very intense and uncontrolled fire Sense 3 - Inferno Meaning: (Christianity) the abode of Satan and the forces of evil; where sinners suffer eternal punishment Example: url'd headlong...To bottomless perdition, there to dwell / a demon from the depths of the pit
