Hello Evanonlarme: What's the difference between these two verbs?and are there any synonyms of them? There is a lot of difference between RENDER and BESTOW: To BESTOW is to give someone something, and it is usually in the context of some kind of honor, honorific, or honorariam. (Those all mean about the same.) For example, In recognition of some charitable public service, some citizen might receive some sort of certificate or plaque which thanks them for their contribution to a community. In a Religious context, a Monk, Priest, Minister, might BESTOW a "blessing". RENDER is entirely different. Literally, TO RENDER something is to put it in some sort of pot and Cook--It--Down. Boiling it is the basic idea. Thus, you cook something down and it becomes useable in some other form. RENDER then has associated meanings which means basically to Give---It---Over. Thus, after some sort of human effort similar to "cooking" something is give by one person to others or an indifvidual. For example, by thinking about some Scientific Problem, a Scientist can RENDER a solution to the problem. A criminal, might be confronted by Police, and thus he will RENDER to the police, things that he has stolen. Right now, I am considering your question and RENDERING an answer for you. Only in the most vague of contexts, would it be said that I am BESTOWING an answer upon you. BESTOW is just not used in that context. I am not Making the Information personally yours. I still have the information and it is freely available to many other people. The information does not belong exclusively to you, so I have not BESTOWED it. ---Warm Regards, Bruce

It's a bit difficult to say without any context. The verbs are usually: to render something (+ adjective, i.e. usable) to bestow something on somebody
