How to ask for a cigarette in Korean? So, I'm just a casual smoker. I rarely get the feeling to smoke unless I'm under some stress or I have a lot of things on my mind. In my University, a lot of Koreans tend to smoke outside and most of them seem to only speak Korean. In this case, how would I go about asking them for a cigarette? I used to think just simply asking "담배를 있어요?" would be alright, but I want to get other opinions or possibly better expressions to use for this situation. Thanks.

"담배를 있어요?" is grammatically not right (담배 is the subject, so you can't put 를). It should be "담배(가) 있어요?" ("가" is not included most of the time). This is too direct though (borderline rude). Most of the time, people would say "(실례지만) 담배 하나 빌릴 수 있을까요?" or "(미안하지만) 담배 하나 빌려도 될까요?" which means "(Sorry but) may I borrow a cigarette?".
