When talking about my family in Spanish, is it "son de" or "es de"?
Example being "mi familia son de Rusia" or "mi familia es de Rusia"?
I would think when talking about your family they would be a group (like ellos or ellas) so it would be "son"? Or are they a unit like El and Ella?

It's a collective noun. In English you say "everybody in my class is nice", the same in Spanish
