What does 'Red Star' mean in this context? "I stand before you tonight in my Red Star chiffon evening gown." This is what Margaret Thatcher said when she was a stateswoman in the UK. What does red star refer to in her speech? The first letters of red and star were capitalized in all quotes I found. Is there a significance funny enough that the crowd laugh loud? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAgM6YHioxI

It was a humourous observation. The dress which she was wearing at the time of her speech was a rather dark red chiffon. The Red Star is a Communist symbol. So, she was likening the colour of her dress to the Red Star. Mrs. Thatcher was very much NOT a communist.
