In Austria, Pfannkuchen and Palatschinken are the same, similar like French "crêpe". In Berlin/Northern Germany, they are not: Crêpe is called Eierkuchen, while Pfannkuchen looks like a doughnut but usually has jam inside. German "Torte" and French "tarte" are not the same. Depending on what it looks like, we would call it "Kuchen", "Torte" or "Fladen".

Tarte of the non-sweet kind, like Tarte Lorraine, is a proper name to us. So we call it Tarte. It's a French food ;)
