In American English, it's another way to say "hello" or "hi." It's very informal, but it's not a serious question. You wouldn't be expected to answer with anything other than "good" or "great!" Example: 1: Hey! How's it going? 2: I'm good, how's it with you? 1: Great! Wonderful weather. 2: Yeah, it's a beautiful day. 1: See ya! 2: Later! Other ways to say the same thing are: Howdy! Hey, ya'll! How you doing? How are you? Yo! What's up? Hey! We have a lot of slang and informal terms, like most languages. You'll just encounter them more because of TV / movies / our culture being exported.

It is a friendly greeting. It doesn't mean much. It's not a real question. It means "I am being friendly." You usually answer it with something short that means "it's going well." "How is it going?" "Just great, thank you," "Just fine! How about you?" or "Really well."

it is used many ways, it can be an expression when you see someone you may not know, you'll say how's it going❗️usually the response is "good" it can also mean how are you doing, ~> how's it going, also good, or well! if i should add one more tip, it can be used towards a person as in learning English, or with any language that you know someone is learning you would say how's it going meaning how is learning English going for you...... or if you get a new job etc
