"You go get yours" - what does it means? Hi, could you help me understand please: I've listened a song "Davis - Get mine". He sings: I looked to God to get some advice. He said, "You go get yours and I'll go get mine". What does it means? Thanks a lot :)

"go get yours" in this case means He (God) won't give you any advice. He is asking you to go find it yourself. (Again, this is what the song is referring to). I'll give you an example with a common situation to help you understand better the meaning of the phrase. Say you just bought a drink and someone asks you for some. But you don't want to share because you really thirsty, then you say "GO GET YOURS". And it will mean "Go buy your own drink".

It's a reference to cultural selfishness. In other words, "every man/woman for themselves." So, you go find your way, find a way to feed yourself, live your life, and that has nothing to do with me, I'm going to find my way and find something to eat separately. I found the song on youtube... so some of the lyrics, he says the tv is telling him that "love" will make him "happy" meanwhile the reality is that his girlfriend is cheating on him and then she tells him it's his fault and he basically calls her on her selfishness. The song is basically about him realizing that no one cares about anyone else and he prays and imagines the God is telling him, look everyone is in it just for themselves.

God means that you should do 2 things, you go to some place ,then you will find your own advices. i.e. he said nothing.
