How do you say "It was nice to hear from you" in Spanish? I don't want to say to say "it was nice to listen to you" by accident. Thanks.

'Me alegró saber de ti' would be a good, common and natural option in Spain, though a little bit of context always helps since the options may vary. :)

The translation of "It was nice to hear from you" will be "Fue lindo oír/escuchar de tí", but in Spanish we use the following phrase to say what you want to say: "Fue lindo saber de tí" that translate to English will be "It was nice to know about you".

I hardly ever say/hear the equivalent in Spanish, it sounds quite formal. "Ha sido un placer saber de ti". If it's a friend the one I'm talking to: ¡Cómo me ha encantado hablar contigo! // ¡Me alegra mucho saber de ti después de tanto tiempo! + ¡Cuídate! = take care // ¡Que te vaya bien! = I hope everything goes fine (?) // etc.

Thank you, everybody. I never expected such a rich discussion. It's been a little language lesson in itself to read the comments and answers here.
