How to say in German "What did you do today?" and "what are you doing today?"

1. Was hast du heute gemacht?
In oral German, people use "Perfekt"(like the present perfect tense in English) instead of "Präteritum"(like the simple past tense in English).
2. Was machst du heute?
In German, there's no present continuous tense.
