Phrases are made up of words only, but sentences have a predicate.
Watching film = a phrase
I watched a film = a sentence
A short sentence which has a predicate but is connected to a main sentence which has the predicate of its own is called a "clause"
If you had been there, you would've enjoyed a lot. = a sentence, predicate of which is "enjoy" However "You had been there" is a clause related to the main sentence, having its own predicate.
Verbs which are used by a preposition and change meaning are called "phrasal verbs", because they make up phrases.
