Hola Arandela! Para esta expresión usamos varias formas de decirlo, por ejemplo "Pen drive" que es un extranjerismo. "Pen drive" es la más extendida al menos en mi zona; pero también se suele llamar memoria externa, memoria flash e incluso la he oído llamar "lápiz de memoria", aunque no está demasiado extendido, esto lo usan más bien traductores y algunos manuales en español. He leido en los comentarios anteriores que se le puede denominar "tarjeta de memoria", pero esto no es cierto, puesto que las tarjetas de memoria son unas targetas cuadradas, de diferentes tamaños, que se introducen, sobre todo, en cámaras de fotos digitales y teléfonos móviles; que son cuadradas,como he dicho antes, nada que ver con memorias USB. Hi Arandela, I disagree with Alex. You may call it a memory stick if you work in IT technology but this word is not recognised and if you go to buy it to a shop , in Spain, that is not specialised in informatics they will look at you like if you were coming from another planet. So, "tarjeta de memoria" is ok

Depends on the country too..Here in Honduras we call them just "memoria", as it is understood when you put it in context. For example: "dame la memoria" = "give me the memory stick". Its like cellphones, if you're british you'd say "mobile phone", if you're american you'd say "cellphone"

In Spanish this word doesn't change because it was adopted from the English. En español les llamamos Extranjerismos.
