Hi, in technology "a slow death" relates to electronics= the gradual change of transistor characteristics with time; this change is attributed to ions which collect on the surface of the transistor. In medicine, "a slow death" refers to a disease that progresses slowly and the person may take many years to die. Example: Alzheimers disease or AIDS. If a person is tortured, he/she can also have a slow death or die slowly. Another interesting meaning is from www.urbandictionary.com Slow Death is another term for the San Diego Area in America, named so because of the punk scene. Example: I hate living in Slow Death.

I've never heard that about San Diego - that's interesting. There is another usage in the United States. A slow death can refer to anything that is agonizing, painful, and something we just can't get away from. We may sometimes refer to that as dying a slow death. (This is not used that often, and when it is it is used for dramatic effect). Any time anything fades away gradually, especially if it is a painful fading, we may say it is dying a slow death. When we use it in the US, the emphasis is usually on the stress or pain of the situation as it deteriorates.

Life itself is a (very very) slow death; the slowest, the better.
