Reading practice: A recent survey revealed that animal sanctuaries across the United States are facing challenges due to inflation and decreased donations. The survey found that most of the 45 sanctuaries reported high prices for essentials like hay and grain since the pandemic. Over a third of them experienced costs doubling. The Catskill Sanctuary is home to 200 rescued animals. They highlighted the significant rise in expenses for essential supplies and medical care. Simultaneously, donations have declined across all levels, from modest to substantial contributions. Founder Kathy Stevens expressed concern that if sanctuaries continue closing down, many animals could face starvation or slaughter. There’s been a drop in the yearly rise of consumer prices however, many sanctuaries are still struggling to survive.

It was sunny today. After school, I attended Vivian’s vocal class and practiced my test songs. Luckily, the tests have been postponed until June, which gives me more time to train. That might be why Vivian was in such a good mood—she’s usually harsh and strict. Later, we took MeeMaw and great-grandma to dinner at a fish specialist restaurant. Great-grandma loves fish the most, and she ate all the fish fillet. It was a nice day.

Nowadays everybody is thinking about buying things, especially material stuff. I think we are worried about giving them the best gifts instead of spending time with them, which is what they need. It's true we are living stressful lives, everything is going fast and we can't have enough time to stay in calm and enjoy the moment. Rather than buying toys, it could be a great option to have an experience together, such as going to the cinema, to the theater or traveling. In a short time, spend our time together. But honestly, in my opinion, the best gift you can give them is invest in their studies and support them.

During my dailylife, music plays an important role that can help me relax from tiredness. I like to listen to music at home, in my car or just on the nosiy streets with my earphones on. The music I chose to listen to always depends on my mood at that moment. I don't know what kind of music others like, as for me, those songs I heard about 20 years ago always strike a chord to me. I have tried my best to know the reason why I just like these old songs, and eventually I realized that everyone has a happy and relaxed time during their lives. 20 years ago, I was young with a lot of unfettered ideas in my mind. I wouldn't be concerned about family, education and money. I had many great dreams for the future which look like daydreams today. Nowadays, work, children and houseworks make me seldom have time to relax. This is the true life every adult nned to face. So, if the old songs which make you remember some sweet moments before, there are really worth listening to.
