Everyone today should pay a small amount from their income to help people who are suffering great poverty. To what extent do you agree? The wealth gap is increasing today; it is said the richest 1% of the world population own the 50% of the world wealth, while about 7 million people live in poverty. Some say everyone should pay a small amount from their income to support those who in need, but I would rather disagree with this opinion if it means everyone contributes the same amount. It is because poorer people carry heavier responsibility with flat rate taxes. It is unfair that the rich and poor carry the same responsibility regardless of their income levels. People make different amounts of money, and the ability for contribution vary. It is ludicrous to take the small amount from the people living in poverty. Similarly, it is not reasonable to impose the same amount on people earning just above the poverty line as the rich. There is simply no room for them to pay for others. Therefore, asking everyone is unacceptable. On the other hand, if the small amount is meant to change in accordance with the income, the statement could be justifiable. Obviously, people facing financial difficulties should pay nothing. The lower-middle class are encouraged to pay relatively smaller amount. The people considered to earn more than confortable income should make larger commitment. In conclusion, although it is necessary to assist people in escaping from poverty, people should pay different amounts according to their income.

Today is the last day of the Vietnamese national holiday. Just like my other days off, I spent most of my time sleeping. I started the day with a light breakfast that my mom bought for me: a traditional cake called Banh Day Gio—made with two slices of sticky rice cake and a thick slice of Vietnamese pork sausage. I usually wake up late on my days off, so Banh Day Gio is a good choice because I don't want to be too full before lunch. For lunch today, my mom made one of my favorites: beef stew. It was served with both bread and noodles, but I chose bread. Unfortunately, the beef wasn’t stewed long enough; it was so chewy that my brother and I had a hard time eating it, so we didn’t eat much. After a good nap, I watched some episodes of a show until dinner time. Unlike lunch, dinner was actually good, and I ate a lot this time. Nothing is better than a great meal to end the day, right?
