Is there a difference between a crook, a scammer and a fraud (and a con person)? Examples: 1. I wanted to buy a used camera on the internet and paid money for it to a person which appeared to be a fraud/a scammer/a crook that didn’t send me the product, banned me and just disappeared with my money. 2. At the airport somebody offered me to exchange dollars for the local currency but the money turned out fake. It was a fraud/a scammer/a crook! 3. A vendor sold me a ring with a diamond they claimed to be real but it’s fake. This vendor is a scammer/a crook/ a frood/ a con man. If you have any other examples, please write them down here.

Yes, there are differences between the terms "crook," "scammer," "fraud," and "con person," although they can sometimes overlap in meaning. Here are the general differences between the terms in the context of your examples: "Fraud" typically refers to intentionally deceiving someone for financial gain, often through false promises or misrepresentation of a product or service. A "scammer" is someone who uses fraudulent or deceptive schemes to trick people out of their money or personal information. A "crook" generally refers to someone who is dishonest and engages in illegal or unethical behavior for personal gain. In the context of your example, all three terms could apply to the person who took your money and did not send you the camera. In this example, "fraud" could be used to describe the person who offered to exchange money but gave you fake currency. A "scammer" and a "crook" could also be used, as they both imply a person who is acting dishonestly to gain something. In this case, all four terms could be used to describe the vendor who sold you a fake ring. They were being deceptive and dishonest, which would make them a "fraud" or a "scammer." The term "crook" could also apply, as they engaged in illegal or unethical behavior for personal gain. "Con person" is another term that could be used in this case, as it implies someone who is skilled at manipulating others for personal gain. Other examples: A person who sends spam emails claiming to be a wealthy Nigerian prince offering to share their fortune with you is a "scammer." A contractor who takes money for a job but never completes the work is a "crook." A person who poses as a bank representative and convinces someone to give them their bank account information is a "fraudster." A person who convinces others to invest in a fake business venture is a "con artist."
