I went to Atami on Saturday for fieldwork for my school. I went there for the first time in several years. We are learning about the connection between art and tourism. I feel that Atami attracts tourists more because of its natural beauty, like its hot springs, than its art. I wondered why they wanted it to have an artistic image rather than just being known for the hot spring. First, a local person gave us an explanation of the area. I was able to learn a lot of things I didn't know, such as the history and the disasters that occurred there. After that, I ate the cutlet curry that he recommended. I had the impression that seafood was famous here, but this curry also seems to be popular. It was an in an elegant Western restaurant and it was very delicious. Afterwards, we divided into groups and went to look at the art. I felt that contemporary art is difficult because it involves not only the artist's intentions but also the social situation. Finally, we went to the famous plum garden. It wasn't plum season yet, but the autumn leaves were beautiful. I think Atami is rich in natural beauty. At the top of the mountain, we were able to try a footbath for free. When I was wondering whether to try there, a local highly recommended it to me. I felt that the local people also love their area.
