Yujia
English name for a quiet girl?
Hi everyone! My name is Yujia. I've been thinking about choosing an English name that sounds similar to my Chinese name. Also I'm very quiet, and I prefer names of a meaning relating to ocean or rain. Any good suggestion? :)

The obvious name for you seems to be Julia, as that is very similar to your own name. It also has equivalents in all Western languages, so people from other countries would have no problem saying it.

In English-speaking countries, people don't attach importance to the meaning of names in the way that you do in Chinese culture. However, Julia is a pretty and feminine-sounding name which certainly strikes me as a suitable for a quiet girl.

I hope you like my suggestion.

My name is also yujia and this is my English name. I’ve been using it for two years in the US and people always tell me it’s a beautiful name! You should consider using yujia as your English name too :)

Yuvia looks and sounds nice, but if the idea is to adopt a name that English speakers know how to pronounce, then it might not be the best choice. If I wasn't already learning Spanish, I think I'd be just as likely to mispronounce Yuvia as Yujia.

Hi Yujia,
As a native US English speaker, I’ve never heard the name “Yuvia”, but I have known/known of a few girls and women named Julia. This name is much, much more common in Western countries, to the point where I think people you talk to in these countries might accidentally call you Julia if you use “Yuvia”. But I can see that if you really want to be called something that means “water”, “Yuvia” could work — lluvia is Spanish for “rain”.

I agree with La Liseuse.
