Korean Alphabet explained simply for english speakers! ^^ I wrote what I know. This is great notes for english speakers learning korean! Alphabet pronounciation is KEY! Though this is not the way most people learn it was easier for me to remember in this order so i would not forget any letters..also this is the dictionary order: . ㄱ ㄲ ㄴ ㅁ ㄷ ㄸ ㅂ ㅃ ㅇ ㅅ ㅆ ㅈ ㅉ ㅊ ㅋ ㅌ ㅍ ㅎ g/k gg n m d/t dd b/p pp nothing or ng s ss j/ch jj ch k t p h -the easiest way for my to understand ㄱㄲㅋ & ㅂㅃ ㅍ & ㄷㄸㅌ & ㅅㅆ & ㅈㅉㅊ is to think of them as three levels. for example put your hand infront of your mouth now say "ㄱ" .... now say "ㄲ" ...now say "ㅋ" you have said each one right if : each time you felt a little more air come out your mouth.. do you understand? each one is said with more breath. try with ㄱㄲㅋ & ㅂㅃ ㅍ & ㄷㄸㅌ &ㅅㅆ & ㅈㅉㅊ For ㄱ g/k ㅂ b/p ㄷ d/t it could make either sound, BUT if you just make the two sounds together like how you pronouce 의 u-i then most of the time you will be correct. For ㅈ & ㅊ it is not the same but to me ㅈ j/ch is just a soft ㅊ ch sound For ㅅ & ㅆ this is the easy one ㅅ as in "soup" ㅆ as in "stop" so just make the s sound harsh for ㅆ *the specail rule for ㅅ is if it is next to the vowel "이" then is sounds like shi *[remember: "i" is the long vowel e sound aka: ee as in sleep] OK so it is important not to get upset with yourself if you say the alphabet and cannot hear very clear diffrences between some consonants because the diffrence isn't that clear to english speakers like us... maybe after a lot of time listening to korean language you will be able to tell .. but these people have been hearing this language thier whole lives so no worries.! 아 (애 얘) 야 어 (에예) 여 오 (와왜외) 요 우 (워웨위) 유 으 (의)이 a-ae-yae-ya o*-e-ye-yo* o-wa-wae-wae-yo oo-wo*-we-wi-yoo u-ui-i SOUND KEY > the o* means deep "o" sounds [long vowel "o" not short vowel "o"] i don't know how to explain besides deep lol.. the e is short vowel "e" sound and i is always the long vowel "e" sound the "ui" is those two sounds combined very fast "u+i" this is the simplest way i can explain the vowels . ^.^
