I - i. short variant of Hungarian Í. Sometimes it becomes too short, when I hear it from a foreigner. C'mon, you should pronounce it. There is now vowel reduction (== weak vowel) in Hungarian, in the beginning or the middle of the word! Í - í. long vowel. J - jé. ("y" as in English word: yet). K - ká. ("c" as in English word: card). L - el. ("l" as in English word: luck). LY - lyé ("y" as in English word: yet). Yes, the pronunciation for the Hungarian "j" and "ly" is the same! M - em. ("m" as in English word: mum). N - en. ("n" as in English word: no). NY - eny. (a palatalized consonant. Sounds like н as in нет . Or sounds like French word "agneau" ). listen to this (the time is 0:42-0:43) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwtwZTRDvYI O - o. short variant of Hungarian Ó. Ó - ó, long vowel. as in English word: "oooh". Ö - ö. short variant of Hungarian Ő. ("e" as in French word: "le") Ő - Ő, long vowel. P - pé ("p" as in English word: "pet") R - er. The girl at this video (the time is 1:56) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwyQK62tO_U . Definitely not like Hungarian R sound, but it more than OK. S - es ("sh" as in English word: "sheep") SZ - esz ("s" as in English word: "sand") T - té. ("t" as in English word: "table") TY - tyé. (a palatalized consonant. Sounds like ть as in делать.) Take a "look" at (1:06) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwtwZTRDvYI U - u. Short variant of Hungarian Ú. sounds like pinyin "u" (3:00) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwyQK62tO_U. Her pronunciation would be perfect in Hungarian for the long vowel Ú. U - ú. long vowel. Ü - ü. Short variant of Hungarian Ű. sounds like pinyin "ü". French "ü" is kinda same, and OK. Ű - ű. long vowel. V - vé. ("w" as in English word "west") Z - zé. ("z" as in English phrase "Be lazy". So relax! We use this sound every time. But the Hungarian sound for Hungarian "DZ" is almost never used/written.) ZS - zsé. ("j" as in French phrase "Je t'aime"). So. we have voiceless consonants: c, cs, f, h, k, p, s, sz, t, ty, p, k, t, ty. we have palatalized consonants (so we can pronounce Slavic words easily): gy, ny, ty. These are the hardest ones. If somebody speaks French: gy, ü (as the pinyin "ü") , ö, zs are piece of cake. Well the Hungarian TY is something what I can not teach.

Magyar ábécé (Hungarian alphabet) You can look at the phonetic transcription (IPA) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_alphabet#Pronunciation. Or listen to this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwtwZTRDvYI The consonants are little different from English, but almost equal. The five vowels: á, i, o, u are sounds as in Spanish, Japanese A - short variant of Hungarian Á Á - Á, long vowel. You really should pronounce it long. In Hungarian, long vowels are separate phonemes from short vowels. Sounds like pinyin A. B - bé ("b" as in English word: bed) C - cé (well, sound something like pinyin C, or japanese TS as in tsunami) CS - csé ("ch" as in English word: church; well, if you have sounds like pinyin Q or CH, any of them, we have no such differences) D - dé ("d" as in English word: dead) DZ - dzé (I hear this sound like pinyin "Z" or Japanese "Z" as in Japanese word "zutto" [maybe I have hearning problems?], but definitely NOT like in English word "zebra") DZS - dzsé ("g" as in English name: George; sound like pinyin ZH or Japanese "J") E - short variant of Hungarian É. Well, I have problems with this sound, when foreigners try to pronounce it. Sometimes it becomes too short, and sounds like "i". No, the English "e", the Russian "e", the Mandarin Chinese "e" is not like ours. The Japanese E sounds like our E sound. Sorry, there are at least 3 sound variants for the written vowel of "e" in the world, not easy to explain. É - É, long vowel. F - ef. look at this video (the time is 0:36) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwyQK62tO_U. She uses his teeth, when pronounce the sound. That is the right way to do in Hungarian too. G - gé ("g" as in English word: get) GY - gyé (a palatalized consonant. I do not get Koreans why able to pronounce it. Some people from Europe are struggling with this sound. Sounds like д as in делать. Listen to this video (the time is 0:39-0:40) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwtwZTRDvYI. H - há ("h" as in English word: hard)
