What's the difference between "하지마" and "하지 말아"? What's the difference between "하지마" and "하지 말아"? Are they both in 반말? Also, I've seen another form : "하지 마라". Is it just another spelling for "하지 말아" or is it another type of verb ending?

The difference between "하지 마라" and "하지 말아" is that 하지 말아 is more indirect, but this distinction doesn't appear in speech since their pronunciation is exactly the same. Whether you mean 하지 마라 or 하지 말아 people will always understand you mean "하지 마라" in speech, so I don't think you should be bothered to use it knowing the difference. Be aware that there's no word spelt like "하지 마라요", it's always 하지 말아요.

Yes they are. "하지마" is often used in spoken while "하지말아" with "말" is prefered in written. There are several ways to say "jangan ~ " dalam bahasa Korea.^^ 1.하지마십니오 formal and polite. 2.하지마세요 informal and polite. 3.하지마오 formal and less polite than "1)" (seldom use this style) 4.하지마라 informal and impolite (반말) 5.하지마 informal and impoite(반말) In conversation, 2),4) and 5) are commonly used.^^ You can take either 4) or 5) as 반말 because it just a matter of personal preference.^^ Hope you enjoy learning Korean. ^________^
