what does "a cranberry merchant" mean? "Nervous," Thomas said nervously. San Antonio had impressed him. He wanted his district to put on as big a show, and he promised the President that it would. "My people have been busy as a cranberry merchant," he said. "They'll deliver." does " a cranberry merchant" have any special meaning? why it is presented in singular form?I don't think there has anything to do with selling cranberry. those two are talking about the greetings Hunston will give to the president Kennedy.sorry, "Houston"

I'd love to know the exact meaning as well! I assume a cranberry merchant would be a busy person (Cranberries are popular? Or does he have to count and check every tiny cranberry?). The singular form makes sense: one single person with a massive workload would be very busy indeed!! :)
