If it's a book you want, I would recommend Survival Korean by Stephen Revere. Most textbooks will start you off learning the high-formal version of Korean. While this is useful to know, you won't hear it very often in daily life. I started off learning that way, and it seemed a huge waste of time to me; wasn't very useful. Stephen Revere's book would have been awesome if I had been able to find it when I first started learning. I found it years later, when I was well beyond beginner, but I can easily see how great it would have been at the time. He's the only foreigner in Korea who is allowed to teach Korean to Korean students, and he's the host of a Korean-learning as well. In short, he knows Korean inside and out, and he did it all from a learner's perspective, which is far better than most of the books written by Korean colleges, because those were written by Koreans from a teacher's perspective.

There are many books out there... it really depends on your learning style There are quite alot books that are used by Korean languages schools as Seogang / 서강 : big pictures, expensiv, not much information, not enough audio and content at in my opinion (do only know the first level), starts with the informal way of speaking, it tries to be "intuitive" ... but this makes only sens when using in an actual Korean class and is somewhat unpractical for selfstudies ..also its missing the "side" information by a teacher KaNaDa / 가나다 : is ok but not well structured for learning with overview - (similar as Seogang) but has alot more content and examples! Formal forms informal, conjunctions, present tens, past tens and other expressions there are others I don't know Here some book suggestions: Grammar in Use: good structured english grammer book with examples and alot of content ..however having already learnd some grammer and vocabs help to understand examples better http://www.twochois.com/korean-grammar-in-use_beginning-english-ver/ Korean made easy Vocabulary : good structured english vocab book with many hints and it makes fun to look through and learn with it as this isn't your everyday dictionary - I can only recommand it cus vocabulary is the most crucial thing to know http://www.twochois.com/korean-made-easy-vocabulary/ Talk to me in Korean: Website with free pdocast and pdf.. you can also buy their books containing these lessons - I think its a good thing to use this in combination with a good grammar book http://www.talktomeinkorean.com/
