Hamed
What does 'I am wondering...' mean? The dictionary says that the word 'Wonder' means something like 'Surprise'. But I can see that many people here say 'I am wondering...' or 'I was wondering...'. What does it mean exactly? For example: 'I am wondering if it is correct or not.' Does it mean 'I am surprised' or 'I am thinking' or 'I'd like to know'? And is this expression used in British English? Thank you in advance.

Hamed... In your examples the word wonder is being used as a verb. The verb also has a second usage: 2 - to doubt / to not be sure about something e.g. He wondered if she really loved him. e.g. They wondered if that explanation was correct or not. e.g. You were wondering if I would call you. Hello. 'I am wondering if it is correct or not.' :in that sentence means that you are asking yourself if it's correct or not. I think that it is used in british English, even though i can't completely assure you because I'm not british myself.

"Wonder" as a noun does mean "surprise " Your example uses wonder as a verb. It does not mean "I am surprised", but more like "I am thinking about it and I'm not sure what opinion to have or what conclusion to draw." It's used in all varieties of English and is a very standard phrase.
