Ben
Anyone have any tips on how to roll/trill your "r" I have trouble rolling/trilling my "r"s when I attempt to speak Spanish. I've tried all the usual suggestion on youtube/ web (such as saying butter repeatedly) but had no luck. Thanks!

I think you should simply practice it with Spanish speakers. Practice makes you perfect. Also, I strongly recommend you to try to watch some movies or TV series from Spain or South America (with English subtitles) so you can hear how do the actors pronounce the letter R, so you can practice it. I hope this helps.

Have you checked out my video on YouTube? I have an video called Learn to Trill the Spanish R in 3 Steps. It took me 2-3 months of daily practice to trill my R. This video shows how I'd teach myself if I were to start from scratch. I am working on a FAQ video where I will answer common questions from both English and Chinese speakers who would like further explanations on my method. If you have any specific questions, let me know and I will be happy to cover them in my FAQ video. Here is the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7oMwO5PVbg Good luck! :)

Hi Ben, the only true thing that you can do is practice, practice and practice. You can get a lot of tips etc of Youtube as you have said but at the end of the day the only thing that you have to to is keep at it every day.

I was told to make the trilling sound for 5 minutes each day. I used to do it in the morning while I was driving to work. I also used to practice saying the 5 vowel sounds in a really exaggerated way. Then I would mix the vowels and the trilling together. Anyone driving alongside me must have thought I was insane! The issue, especially for me as I tend to mumble, is that I never used my tongue in that way so I was "out of shape" where that was concerned. I needed to get used to it. It took a couple of weeks but it started to get easier and easier. Then I started to practice tongue twisters like this until I got it down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPfsyXzQx4Q
