"burglar" vs "thief" vs " robber" Hi there, Could someone please tell me if the following words are all synonyms and have no big difference? 1 burglar 2 thief 3 robber I believe all of them have the meaning of a person who steals. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank, Nanako

1 burglar - someone who breaks into your house or apartment to steal something 2 thief - someone who steals from you, for example, you are seating in an outdoor cafe, you put your camera on the table, a man walks by and takes your camera. He is a thief. A pickpocket is a particular type of thief 3 robber - someone who threatens you with violence with a gun, knife, or hits or kicks you, in order to steal something. for a bank, we say a bank robber, since they usually have a gun

Hi Nanako-san, A burglar is someone who steals by breaking into (entering illegally) a building (for example, someone's home). A thief is someone who steals something without being noticed. For example, a pickpocket. A robber is someone who forcefully takes away someone else's belongings, usually with weapons or threats of violence. For example, a bank robber.
