"pretty much like" and "much more like" "today it will feel much more like a November day" and "it's pretty much like an opening act" I read above two sentences in different articles, and I am wondering if "much more" and "pretty much" can be replaced by each other in these context, or do they have different meanings? Thanks for your help.

I suspect Miguel's comments were meant to be answers. They are a good answer. Another example: "If I shave my beard off, I will look much more like you". That means I look like you now, and after I have shaved, I will be even more like you than I was before. "The rebellion is pretty much over" This means that there are perhaps occasional skirmishes or attacks, but mostly it is finished.

The statements can be interchangeable, but there is some nuance between the two. "much more like" is a more definitive statement than "pretty much like". So you are a little bit more certain in your opinion with "much more like".

Note: Yes, I could say "It will feel pretty much like a November day" (e.g it resembles a November day) but this no longer sounds like I'm comparing it to previous days that perhaps felt 'less like' a November day than today does. Slightly different meaning :) And if I said "it is much more like an opening act", again I am making a comparison, e.g "more like an opening act (than a closing act)". In other words, "much more" is a comparison of difference. "pretty much" is a comparison, but of what makes two things similar, not different.

They have different meanings. "pretty much like" = "almost the same" (as something else). Synonyms: "More or less", "similar", "resembles". It suggests that it closely resembles an opening act, maybe with some small, unimportant differences. "much more" = an increased amount (than something else). "It will feel much more like a November day" implies that previous day(s) didn't feel like November day(s). I hope that helps, please let me know if you have questions!
