French and Spanish are similar in that they are both varieties of vulgar Latin, and therefore share many grammatical characteristics, but the similarities generally end there. I have learnt both at the same time, and whilst at first I mixed them up, I have since managed to easily separate them in my brain (so that I no longer get confused). The funny thing is, when I started to learn Japanese, the same thing happened with Japanese (i.e. I started mixing it with Spanish and French). So, in my opinion it's not that French and Spanish are similar which causes you to mix them up and get confused, it is probably that you are simply learning two languages at the same time. The exact same thing would probably happen regardless of which languages you were studying. The good news is, however, that you can train your brain to better distinguish between the languages you are studying and to not get confused all the time. I managed it with several languages, although I'm not really sure how I did it.

who told you both languages are similar? if you get confused with comparing them tell me, you ll be my favourite subject of study. I never seen a french and a spanish understand each other easily, well even in a short phrase. I speak catalan which in some way is in the middle of both and they spanish and french cant understand me! But i understand them with not much effort.

I think that you should look at that not as a problem but as an advantage. Think taht the vocabulary and the grammar are very similar and then learning one of them you almost learn the other. The big difference comes with the pronontiation ;-)

well,You kan't.It is hard to learn one language ,but two at the same time, and wather you want it or not you will get confused mixing them at one time or another,so my advice is start learning one language firsth, until you think you handle it a little bit and then start adding the second cause otherwise it will be a mess in you'r head...goodlook ;)
