Some of the most popular slang words trending in 2024 include: Sigma: Originally a Greek letter, this now represents a self-reliant, humble type of leader or strong personality, especially popular in certain online communities. Touch Grass: This is a humorous, sometimes sarcastic suggestion for someone who might be overly absorbed in online life, telling them to go outside or get some fresh air. Rizz: Short for charisma, this term is all about someone’s charm and ability to attract others, often romantically. Skibidi: Inspired by a viral series featuring “singing toilets,” this term is often used to describe something strange or a bit off-putting. Bet: Used similarly to “okay” or “I agree,” as in: “Wanna watch that new movie? Bet!” Demure: Though an older word, it’s been revived by social media influencers to describe a modest, understated style. These words are heavily influenced by social media, especially platforms like TikTok, which often spark viral trends and redefine popular expressions

Thanks to English popstar Charli XCX's album of the same name, the word: 'brat' has a new 'slang' meaning. Historically, the word 'brat' has had negative connotations, describing children who were naughty and spoiled. However, following release of Charli XCX's album - and maybe somewhat thanks to the Gen Z attitude to life - the term began to acquire a more positive connotation, especially within the music and fashion industries. In modern pop culture, the word 'brat' now refers to someone who is confidently rebellious and playfully defiant. Being labeled “a brat” or “bratty” in this context is more of a compliment, recognising a person’s ability to challenge norms and express themselves freely without concern for conventional expectations. And in 2024, 'brat’ was chosen as Collins' word of the year!
