Whenever I didn’t know a word, I’d ask someone to spell it out for me. That helped me visualize it and remember it for next time. After studying English for 10 years in school, I thought I was prepared when I arrived in Australia, but I quickly realized I only had the basics, I lacked real communication skills. So, I immersed myself in the language: I spoke with people, read books in English, watched movies, and switched my daily life to “English mode.” That’s how I became fluent.
