Hi, I’m Shuni. I was born in Indonesia into an English-speaking family, which makes me a native speaker of both English and Indonesian. Later, I learned Japanese as a second language. This experience has given me a deep understanding of the differences between learning a native language and a second language. When I learned English and Indonesian, I didn’t start with grammar—no baby does. However, when I learned Japanese, I began with grammar.

I have experience teaching English, Indonesian, and Japanese. Since Japanese isn’t my native language, I often find it easier to explain Japanese grammar compared to English or Indonesian grammar. Drawing from my experience of learning Japanese as a second language, I can relate to those learning English as a second language. To better equip myself for teaching English, I completed a TEFL course. For teaching Japanese as a foreign language, I underwent training at The Japan Foundation in Urawa, Japan.
私は英語、日本語を教えた経験があります。日本語は母語ではない為、英語の文法よりも日本語の文法を説明する方が簡単だとよく感じています。日本語を第二言語として学んだ経験上で、英語を第二言語として学ぶ生徒の気持ちはよく解ります。英語を教えるスキルを向上させる為、TEFLコースを修了しました。又、日本語を外国語として教える為、埼玉県浦和市にある国際交流基金で研修を受けました。Minhas aulas e estilo de ensino
I generally agree that to learn a language effectively, you should learn it in that language because each language has its unique way of expression. When you speak English, for example, you need to think in English. If you speak English while thinking in Japanese, you might end up sounding like you're speaking Japanese in English.
That said, I understand that for beginners, learning a foreign language entirely in that language can feel overwhelming. I completely get it. Being trilingual, I can adapt to your needs. I can teach Japanese in English or Indonesian, and I can teach English in Japanese or Indonesian.

Since Shuni can speak Japanese, I was able to understand the subtle differences in nuance. I also learned about the differences in grammar between Japanese and English. It was a very meaningful time. I plan to continue taking lessons and to practice a lot on my own.
