I am a Certified Public Accountant, currently working as a Chief Financial Officer, with many years experience in the world of business. I came onto italki looking for a teacher who could guide me to the next level in terms of my English Language speaking skills with a specific focus on Business English, speaking correctly & professionally, and broadening my range of vocabulary to include words, phrases, and idiomatic language so as to sound more like a native speaker. Jay has offered me all of that and more. As we converse together on topics that are relevant and interesting to me, he makes a detailed record of my mistakes. We then go through these mistakes, and he guides me towards making the corrections myself, as well as offering me ways in which I can express myself more effectively and articulately. What better way to learn English than through personalised mistake correction? If you need an English teacher, you should try this one, because he’s the best one I’ve ever had!

My two sons (11 and 15) have been learning English with J.C. for a little less than a year. Their English has improved from beginner to intermediate level, mostly through reading and writing practice. I receive updates about each lesson and their study progress, and I have been very impressed with J.C.'s teaching.

The third lesson with Jay, I feel much more confident with speaking in English. I have had experiences with other teachers here, but Jay is without a doubt the best. He is a very understanding and professional teacher. Jay always tells you what you need to change in your sentence or where you need to apply a different word. If you think he doesn't care about you (like most teachers on this site), you are very wrong. This man is willing to help anyone and everyone. the altruism and kindness that comes from this good man are what is missing in our society right now. Jay, that was a pleasure to have such a good lesson with you. Keep it up, my friend!

I have had many English teachers in the past few years, but none can compare to Jay. He thoroughly takes notes of all your mistakes without interrupting you, and at the end of the class, you review them all, so you can truly learn and improve. But he doesn’t just give you the corrections; he makes you think and helps you find the error and the correct word or phrase yourself, providing clues when you’re stuck. Additionally, he always shows interest in what you talk about, asking questions and guiding the conversation with incredible skill and fluency. But beyond that, he is an amazing person with a very kind heart. Thank you, Jay, for your patience and for sharing your wisdom! And never stop smiling like you do!
