赤, 紅, and 朱 ?
I know that 赤 is the kanji for あか, however what is the difference between the the kanji 赤, 紅, and 朱 ?
I mean the word 「あか」 has 3 different kanji.. but what is the difference between them?
You can consider 赤, 紅, and 朱 are all subordinate(more specific) concepts in the superordinate(higher) concept あか. The differences are as everyone explains. Each of them carries different images, as well.

赤 = red
紅 = crimson/brownish red
朱 = vermillion
紅茶 = black tea, referring to its actual color, so that indicates just how darkish 紅 really is.
