I‘ve changed my mind on this question over years. Because there isn't an absolute rule for all cases when we talk about whether to give up a thing or not. I used to think we should always motivate ourselves in difficulties, because we need to catch the opportunity and at least we learn from the failures. This is true, but may not adapt to everyone and every life stage. Nowadays, I more and more agree with the thought that giving up or not giving up is just a choice under a specific situation. It's not and should not be a big deal in your long life. Don't put too much pressure on yourself, because life is about regrets and in most cases you actually have the second chance. I prefer to have a peaceful and easy way to deal with my own life. So I think, we can just give up when we want to.

I haven't seen my pets for a long time, because the two poor parrots have been living with my parents for over two years. I still remember the moment when I saw them on a market five years ago. They sang songs and jumped up and down in the cage. They looked very happy which comforted me at that moment. I brought them to the train station, but was told that pets were not allowed to take on trains. Then I took a taxi and brought them home from 500 miles away from my home. I liked them very much at first, then began to ignore them. I was tried of feeding them ,and didn't like the mess they made. Until I brought them to my parents' home. This reminds me of the way we treat others. At first, our eyes are full of the advantages of others, then the passion fades. Finally, we hate each other. We always like new things, and abandon old things. So, what things are really important throughtout our life?

It was rainy today. Last night, a video about the origin of Chinese calligraphy characters caught my eye. It was all about glyphs. So today, after finishing my homework, I delved into the topic on the internet and discovered some shocking, dark knowledge about the Chinese glyphs on tortoise shells from thousands of years ago. These ancient characters, which are the ancestors of today’s Chinese characters, are mostly bloody and even terrifying. For example, the character that means “people” today actually developed from a drawing of a knife stabbing an eye. This suggests how people, or slaves, were made to be obedient. They literally gouged out people’s eyeballs to subdue them. Some other characters depict the bloody nature of human sacrifices, showing how people were cut in half. Ancient China was horrific, and all of this was well recorded in our language. I wonder how our ancestors survived through such a dark period. It’s creepy yet fascinating, and I couldn’t stop learning more.
