おどろいたのは、まわりの研究者たち。
「みなさん、ごめんなさい」
みんなの制止も聞かず、カンパネラは隊からはずれました。
いきさきは決まっていました。
湖のほとり、あの赤毛の女の子がいたところです。
望遠鏡で女の子を見つけた日から２０年間、ずっとこの機会をうかがっていたのでした。

半日もすると、ようやくそこに着きました。
あのとき望遠鏡で見たまんま、湖のほとりはコケでうめつくされています。
