What is the difference between tentare and provare?
Can I get examples of the differences between tentare and provare. I'm not sure I know when to use each word!
Grazie mille. Leanne
In Italian is really small the difference between these verbs and you can use both verbs indifferently! But if you like to be more precise in speech, (not all Italians are so precise!), you have to know that tentare means you are making a greater effort to do something. I think that in English you have the same difference between to try + to + infinitive verb (tentare) and to try + ing form. But believe me: do not worry! You can speak Italian well even if you don't know the real difference between their meaning! I hope that it's the same in English....

Hi there! Not a native italian, but I'm pretty sure that tentare is akin to "to attempt," while provare would be used in the context of "to try". Also, you should post your questions in the question section, rather than the notebook section. You will be much more likely to get good answers. :-)
