Different words same mean。

1 中文usually is used for "What language do you speak?" I speak Chinese 我会说中文。You speak good Chinese. 你中文很好。The related word would be like 英文(English) 2 汉语 Usually it's used in the names of some Chinese language tests.. like 汉语语言测试 3 中国话 When I see this, it reminds me of a song which has lyrics including this word... it's not so common in daily use I think.. If you say 我会说中国话 It's quite foreign.. 4 华语 Usually it's about songs. Some song rewards, 华语音乐榜单 means the Chinese songs rewards, 华语金曲 Chinese songs, the related words would be like 粤语金曲 Cantonese songs, 欧美金曲 English songs, etc 5 普通话 Means mandarin. Used to compare with other dialects. 你普通话说的很好 You speak good mandarin, means you don't have many accents.

Generally, there is few differences between 中文 and 中国话. They all means the language which Chinese people speak and write. 华语 is used most by Chinese who are born in other countries. 汉语 is on par with 普通话，but the latter is more about speaking. 国语 is more used by Taiwanese and Hongkongnese. These are not the same.When you use them, you should take the particular occasion into consideration. For example, when you are travelling in HK, you find youself can not understand Cantonese, you might ask people there by saying can you speak Mandarin(普通话)？ If you asked them whether they can speak 中国话，it does not make sence as Cantonese is 中国话as well.

中文 is a term for both written and oral Chinese. 汉语 is a general term for Chinese language. 普通话 (Common speech) aka 国语 (national language) is Mandarin language, an official language of China and Taiwan, it is based on the Beijing dialect. 华语 is a term used by all ethnic Chinese people regardless of their nationality, just like the word 华人 or 华裔 usually means a Chinese person living abroad.
