Rice in Other Languages This evening I was washing rice for dinner, and it just came to my head the word 'rice'. In my language (Indonesian) we have the word for uncooked rice is 'beras' and for the cooked rice is 'nasi' and in other language that I know (Turkish) uncooked rice is 'pirinc', cooked rice is 'pilav'. I've never known if there is any term for cooked and uncooked rice in English, as far as I know it's just 'rice' for both cooked and uncooked... How about in your language?

...it would be nice if English had a separate word for cooked rice. I eat short grain rice from Thailand, long grain Basmati rice from India and a mix of whole grain rice. But it's all rice.
