Noun excercise Hello! I'm doing my homework, but I stuck with this excercise. I don't have to change the word in brackets. I made some sentences but I'm not sure if it is correct. Could you please give me some examples, or tell me if my sentences are correct. Thanks!! NOUNS: Use the given word, which must not be changed, to write another sentence so it is as similar as possible in meaning to the first sentence (be sure to use a noun): (16 points) 1. The economic crisis forced them to close the factory. (led) The led factory was forced to close because of the economic crisis. 2. I am very pleased to introduce our next speaker. (gives) I am very pleased to introduce the person who gives the next speech. 3. For the next three years they corresponded regularly. (continued) 4. Louise was very patient with me when I was ill and irritable. (showed) 5. We agreed never to refer to the matter again. (make) We make the promise that we never refer to the matter again.

This is a poorly constructed exercise. Whoever wrote the exercise should have provided gapped sentences to give you guidance as to how to reword the original sentence. Here's an example for the first two: 1. The economic crisis ........................ of the factory (Hint - use the past tense verb 'led' and make a noun out of the word 'close') 2. It ..........................to introduce our next speaker. (Hint - use the verb 'gives' and make a noun out of the word 'please')

I don't understand why this is called a noun exercise because you are using verbs. I don't understand what it means when it says "Be sure to use a noun." The "brackets" are called parentheses ( ). Brackets are [ ]. Braces are { }. 1. The economic crisis forced them to close the factory. (led) The economic crisis LED them to close the factory. 2. I am very pleased to introduce our next speaker. (gives) It GIVES me (great) pleasure to introduce the person who gives the next speech. 3. For the next three years they corresponded regularly. (continued) For the next three years they CONTINUED to correspond regularly. 4. Louise was very patient with me when I was ill and irritable. (showed) Louise SHOWED me patience when I was ill and irritable. 5. We agreed never to refer to the matter again. (make) Let's MAKE an agreement never to refer to the matter again.
