What's the difference between"apetecer" and "desear"? Do they both mean "wish" in English?

Not exaclty. Desear = Wish. (It could be equal to wish, you really want that something happens ) Apetecer= It is something maybe by the moment (By the moment you want an Icecream, but it doesn't really mean you wish for an icecream, it is not the dream of your life to eat it )

Hola.... Saludos

Even if both could be used as the sam, for mexican people, "Apetecer" is related to something you would like (It is so common expresing in the desire of eat something : "¿Apeteces este chocolate?"), and "desear" is a deeper feeling. The funny thing is that mexican people do not use a lot the word "apetecer" (it sounds old or so polite), and we use a lot the word "desear"
