How do you pronounce these words ? 1. Are you ready ? I would like to know the pronunciation of "y" in the word "ready" should be same as "ee" in the word "sheep" or " i" in the word "ship. 2. You're welcome : When I heard the sentence said by Americans , I can hardly heard the word ' re , it sounds like " you welcome " ,is that true ? or maybe r sound is very weak ? Thank you so much for your comments.

1. In AmE ( American English ) it's 'ee' as in sheep. 2. In AmE the 'r' is hard and distinct.

Hi, The "y" in "ready" is pronounced like the ee in Sheep. So it is pronounced like "red-ee" In "you're" the "re" is weak. It usually ends up getting slurred together as sounds like "yer" or "your" (as in your ball, your hat...). Pronouncing the word as "your" would sound more proper than the shortened "yer" sound.

www.howjsay.com or any online dictionary (http://www.merriam-webster.com) will pronounce these words for you more reliably and precisely than we can describe the pronunciation with electronic ink on a computer screen.
