Please explain the meaning of "but little else" in the below sentence.
- The state provided a basic quantity of food for daily sustenance, but little else.

"But little else" in the sentence means "but a small amount of".

It means that it is all the state provided. Almost nothing more.

they mainly provided food and just a few other items. ( water, soap, etc )
