Chinese is classified as an SVO language. Most constructions follow that pattern. However, there are some sentence constructions that are a little strange and seem to warp the usual SVO pattern. There are also some strange things in Chinese like "verbless" sentences where adjectives act like verbs, or the use of 把 which can change the word order. This doesn't mean it's not SVO; English is an SVO language despite the fact that we don't use SVO when we ask questions (Is Mandarin SVO? / Mandarin is SVO). The main thing with Mandarin is to remember word order is the most important element when it comes to deriving meaning and understanding.

The standard is SPO, in this way: Chinese: 他 去 中国 Pinyin: Ta1 qu4 zhong1guo2 Word to word translation: He drive China. Translation: He goes to China. SVO=subject + verb + object ,it's a basic form of languages,right? As we can find that English is in this kind. well...in my opinion, Chinese..atleast mandarin, is SVO language as well... So if good at English, it'll not be so hard to study on mandarin with your focusing..like having a good Chinese speaking environment, also much interest in it and being intelligent...No problem to learn it well if you really take your heart and try your best! And one thing for sure is that you already could use two or more languages fluently, so learning another new language couldn't be a hard time. However, as you know that Chinese seems to be so different from Western languages, Chinese characters will be confusing for most people who speak alphabetic languages only to understand. Without having much impression of pictorial symbols, characters are just like a sort of tiny picture in their minds. Mostly hard to remember. But as mentioned just now, creating a good Chinese environment is a big help. One little but important theory my language teacher told me before: Languages are used for communication. It's so easy to read this sentence, but is a long way to get to know the meaning..maybe takes time, I think. So no matter how hard a language is, start from the basic knowledge is often the first step...but i think that doesn't mean the base is 'pinyin' only, everybody has different opinions..such as having an environment first in order to have a 'Chinese feeling'. This could be a good way for beginners for it'll let you have more interest and understanding of this language :)
