It means 'whoever can be satisfied of a situation, will be happy". Like if you don't have your dream job, but you have a job which is not stressful and allows you to live comfortably, and you can be satisfied with it without obsessing about your dream job, you will be happy. I suppose it would be "be happy with what you have and you'll find real joy".

Certamente Mick Jagger (Rolling Stones) conosceva bene questo proverbio italiano, quando, nel 1968 scrisse la canzone "You Can't Always Get What You Want"; Ha arricchito di esempi e musica un nostro semplice modo di dire. Quote from the song's lyrics: You can't always get what you want, no! But if you try sometimes well you just might find You get what you need Oh Yes! Woo! O forse e' qualcosa che prima o poi scopriamo tutti ? === Ancora non chiaro ? I have another example handy, in another language and a definitely more interesting subject: example # 2 : It's ok for me just to answer, joking a little bit, to Amie's questions, I don't get ill if I may not ask her out for dinner.

"Chi si accontenta gode" : who wants too much is always disappointed and frustrated, so it's better to be satisfied with little.
