In Kyrgyzstan we celebrate Nooruz - New Year, which is celebrated in March on the day of Spring Equinox. It has Zoroastrian origins, but nowadays is a wonderful celebration of life, spring.
On the photo, women are carrying traditional spring beverage that is made on Nooruz. In famine times families used to cheap in the sprouted wheat they had and cook this rich thick beverage for everyone to share. They would gather around, burn the juniper to scare away the evil, and celebrate the spring, beginning of sowing season.
