My name is Elvira. I'm a certified Spanish and English as a Second Language teacher. I have worked with adults and young students in Belgium, Spain, and South Korea. I currently live in South Korea, where I'm also learning the local language.
I was born and raised in Guatemala, so I have a Latin American accent. I moved to the United States when I was 15 years old, and that is where I learned English for the first time as a high school student. I'm pretty familiar with the process and challenges that come with learning a new language. Therefore, I decided to become a Spanish and English teacher to make people's experiences with these languages as rich and enjoyable as possible.Показать перевод

As a teacher, I put myself into my students' shoes as often as possible. Would I have been interested in certain topics as a teenager learning English? As an adult learning a new language now, would a boring lesson keep me motivated to keep learning? I try to keep these thoughts into account, as well as my students' feedback, to create lessons that are worth their time.Мои уроки и стиль преподавания
I like to employ communicative language teaching, which focuses on getting the student to acquire the tools they would need to interact with those around them on a daily basis. I use activities such as role-playing and games during lessons. My goal is to create a low anxiety environment for students, where they can feel free to make mistakes while learning and have fun and enjoy the process.Мой учебный материал

Substitute TeacherI mainly worked with English learners whenever I was not covering for other classes, in which many English learners needed extra support as well.

Global Perspectives TeachersI currently teach global perspective to 1st and 2nd-grade and reading class to 3rd grade. These students are primarily English learners; therefore, all subjects must be taught from an ESL standpoint.

I don't know how I got so lucky! Elvira is a patient and kind teacher that continues to encourage me as a struggle through conversation. I tend to make a lot of errors within speaking- but she has never been annoyed or upset at my errors!

By far the best lesson I've had. It was a good blend of academic
learning the "formula" for future/past tenses and conversation in Spanish. Time flew by and I feel much better with my level after the lesson.
