Having climbed the “mountain of fluency” in two foreign languages, I know exactly how hard and frustrating the journey can be, but I also know how rewarding and satisfying finally making it to the top is. To me, wrapping your head around a completely new way of thinking that often comes with achieving fluency in a language is one of the best feelings I know, and I want to share it with you. As someone with a strong background in science, my specialty is scientific communication and technical writing. I also think my experience in grappling with abstract scientific concepts has taught me to explain grammatical concepts and semantic nuances in a concise and easily understandable way.

I got my teacher certificate in 2015 and since then I have been teaching Finnish and English. I enjoy giving private lessons, because this way I'm able to personalize the lessons for the student’s goals and interests. In addition I have worked with schools and companies providing group and individual lessons. I also have written language books for Finnish students. As a teacher, I believe that I can help the students to grow as learners and to reach their goals. I'm passionate about education and always strive to do the best for my students. I personalize lessons for each student according to their needs and interests.

As a teacher I am encouraging, and try to activate my students to use as much Finnish as possible. People usually tell me they can be themselves in my company. This no stress state helps them to express themselves better in Finnish as the brain has no reason to activate the sympathetic nervous system (fight/flight/freeze response) which would compromise higher brain functions. I have about 2000 hours of teaching experience, mostly online but also face to face.

I love learning languages myself, and it's inspiring to see others be inspired to learn as well. I want to encourage my students to not be afraid to make mistakes. My lessons will focus on conversational practice instead of formal lessons, but I want to help my students to improve in an efficient way and will correct their mistakes as needed.

I can speak both formal and casual Finnish and Swedish, and I recommend that you specify which one you want to practice. Although I'm quite familiar with grammatical and other theory, I try to teach everything through context to make it meaningful. That way learning is engaging and fun, and it's easier to wrap one's head around things that way. I value that pupil enjoys the learning process and gets to freely choose the conversation topics.
