Just because something isn't wrong doesn't mean it's entirely correct. 'por' and 'para' can correspond to other prepositions in English. Here are some examples:
Por: for, to, because of, by, on, in, through, instead of, in exchange of, on behalf of, during, per, around.
Para: for, in order to, by, on.

¡Hola qué tal! Me llamo Ramón. Ayer decidí hacer una fiesta sorpresa por el cumpleaños (because of her birthday - cause) de mi mejor amiga que se llama Alicia. Compré un regalo especial para ella (for her - recipient of an action) y organicé una fiesta sorpresa en mi casa. Por la mañana (In the morning - non-specific time) recibí un paquete que había comprado por internet (I had bought online - no preposition needed in English. Idea of ‘trough, by’) Era una colección de música clásica. Elegí este regalo por (because of her love for music - cause) su amor por la música y sabía que sería un regalo perfecto para ella (for her - recipient of an action.)

También ordené una tarta personalizada para este día (for this day - deadline) por cincuenta euros (for fifty euros - amount.).
Por la tarde (In the afternoon - non-specific time), mientras preparaba todo para la fiesta sorpresa (for the surprise party - purpose), recibí una llamada por teléfono de mi amiga Teresa (I received a phone call from my friend Teresa - no preposition needed in English. Communication idea) Le pregunté a Teresa si podía llamar a Alicia y a otros amigos por mí (I asked her if she could call Alicia and other friends for me - Idea of ‘on behalf of’) para invitarlos a mi casa (to invite them to my house - purpose.)
Los amigos llegaron antes y decoramos mi casa para sorprenderla (we decorated my house to surprise her - purpose.) Para comer (For to eat - to describe an action) había muchos bocadillos y para beber (For to drink - to describe an action) cerveza, vino y también champán para brindar ( for toasting - purpose.)
Finalmente, cuando llegó la hora, todos los amigos estábamos listos para recibirla (to welcome her - recipient of an action.) En ese momento Alicia me llamó y me dijo que estaba un poco retrasada por causa del tráfico (because of / due to traffic - cause), pero que por las ocho llegaría a mi casa (She would arrive at my house around eight - non-specific time.)
Alicia llegó por fin (at last - prepositional phrase), y nos miró sorprendida y emocionada. Por supuesto (Of course - prepositional phrase) no esperaba una reunión de todos los amigos. El regalo le encantó, cantamos “cumpleaños feliz” para ella (for her - recipient of an action) estuvimos en mi casa por tres horas (we were at my house for three hours - period of time) y la fiesta fue un éxito.
Después de la celebración Alicia me dijo que para ella (for her - opinion) había sido el mejor cumpleaños de su vida. Nos sentamos para hablar (We sat down to talk - purpose) y le conté qué organicé la fiesta por nuestra amistad de muchos años (for our many years of friendship - cause) y que para mí (for me - opinion) ella era mi mejor amiga. Fue una tarde llena de alegría y risas, y estoy seguro de que será un cumpleaños que recordaremos para siempre (we will remember forever - opinion.)
