There are many traditional dances in Japan.
Among them, I think So-ran Bushi (ソーラン節) is the most popular dance.
This song was originally sung by fishermen in Hokkaido. In spring, many herrings came to Hokkaido to spawn. Fishermen from various areas near Hokkaido gathered to catch herrings. They would launch their boats and sing So-ran Bushi.
A famous Japanese folk singer later arranged So-ran Bushi, making it famous throughout Japan.
We learn the So-ran Bushi dance in primary or junior high school. The choreography of the dance mimics the action of pulling a fishing net.
Many Japanese people can dance So-ran Bushi, and I even saw a video of Kemio, a famous influencer, dancing it!
